Stop the Spread of Germs this Winter!

It’s peak cold and flu season, and waking up with a runny nose or a fever is the last thing you want to happen when it’s already cold and miserable outside. Fortunately, there are several actions you can take to prevent germs from spreading:• Diet and exercise: Eating right and staying active can help prevent many diseases and ailments, including the cold and flu. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and try to fit in 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week.• Sleep: Getting plenty of rest, even when you aren’t sick, keeps your immune system healthy. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep a night.• Wash your hands and avoid touching your face: We all know hand washing (make sure to use warm water!) is crucial to staying healthy during flu season, but try not to touch your eyes or nose – this could infect you with virus particles.• Clean your home: Use disinfectant and make sure to clean doorknobs, TV remotes, and cell phones.• Get the recommended vaccines for your age: Vaccines are recommended for all adults to help prevent getting and spreading diseases. Check with your primary care provider on which vaccines are recommended for you.
