Making Strides Early Detection & Quality of Life Grant

Through a Making Strides Early Detection & Quality of Life Grant, awarded by the American Cancer Society, The Primary Health Network (PHN) will be educating Amish women living in Mercer and Lawrence Counties about the importance of breast cancer screenings in the coming months. In April of 2013, the American Cancer Society awarded The Primary Health Network $5,000 to provide outreach to the women of the Amish communities located in these two counties. While The Primary Health Network currently visits the New Wilmington Amish community and does general medical care outreach, this funding provides the resources to add a focused breast cancer component to PHN’s outreach program as well as expanding to new locations. The added effort will help to ensure that Amish women are educated about screening importance, scheduled to receive mammograms, and receive free transportation to and from their treatment/screening appointments. The Primary Health Network is very pleased to be the recipient of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Early Detection & Quality of Life Grant, and looks forward to combating breast cancer by increasing awareness in the Amish communities of Mercer and Lawrence Counties.
